Karen Turvey - Entertainer, Trainer, & Horsewoman

Karen Turvey is a well known performer, stuntwoman, and horse trainer. You have most likely seen her in a number of shows, commercials and feature films. She is involved in all aspects including performing, design, and training. She is highly sought after for her training techniques and the genuine enthusiasm she has for horses. Now, Karen has put together an act to bring excitement, energy, and inspiration to horse lovers with a fast action dual chariot race along with educational inspirational training demonstrations.

Being from a family who was always around horses, Karen grew up working, playing, and knowing horses. Because of this many opportunities were available which included stunt work for movies and commercials. Karen quickly jumped in and showed how fearless she was on and off horses. She became a member of SAG and the Stuntman Association. Her outgoing personality and knowledge of horses led her to work in many live shows, including EuroDisney's "Wild West Show" in Paris; Arabian Nights dinner theater in Orlando, Florida; The Royal Hanneford Circus touring the US; the Garden Brothers Circus touring Canada and the Pirate Stunt Show in Osaka, Japan and most recently, the Cirque Du Soleil-like horse show, Cavalia. All of this experience has molded Karen into a standout performer and "extreme" trainer. She has a dynamic stage presence and garners praise from all who see her perform. Richard Gere, after seeing Karen perform in San Francisco stated, "I was so drawn to her when she was on-stage. She has such energy and presence.” John McNeil, a show producer after Karen’s performance in Toronto said "She has such beauty, grace, and power. She makes riding 4 horses look effortless.”

To get the most out of her horses, Karen maintains an incredible friendship and partnership with the horses. "Training is not just methods, it is an attitude. You have to know your horses and what they are capable of. Whenever you approach a horse you have to know what you want and what they can do. My approach is to treat my horses like a partner and know their personality and habits, both good and bad." She is also in demand as a trainer for trick riders and a professional consultant for those who want to take their acts to the next level.

She was the quarter horse trainer and featured performer from the equestrian show Cavalia. After opening the show in Canada and touring the country for 2 years, Karen teamed up with her brother, Tommie Turvey at the Wahl Equestrian Center in Sterling, Illinois. They have been busily building one of the most exciting training and entertainment companies in the industry today. With an ever increasing demand for entertainment and proven training, Karen, Tommie and all the staff at Equine Extremist Entertainment are reaching for their goal of providing the best experience, education, performance, and inspiration to horse owners everywhere.
